I subscribe to a blog written by author, Seth Godin. Today’s blog was titled, “The Top Things” I thought it was very helpful! Click here for the original article.
In brief he talks about learning from History. We hope our leaders will learn from our past, remember our forefathers, etc. But what about us? What about our businesses? How can we learn from history? One thought is to look back at your roots, how you started, why you do what you do. Those are good things to remember moving forward.
Godin challenged me this morning to look at my competitors and their history. “What are the five (5) best decisions your competitor or predecessor made last year?” Every job applicant, he says, should be able to state five lessons learned from previous employment. Politicians or political candidates should learn from those who came before. The same goes for you in your business. Evaluate what they did right and learn from it!
What does Godin say is the best thing to steal from your competitors? “Wisdom.”
