Writing a good resume is really important if you hope to make an impression and stand out from the competition for the vacancy. Your resume should speak for you and give a correct impression of who you are and how you will be an asset to the company. Make Your Resume Stand Out
Use a professional email address for your contact details. Childhood nicknames or strange/suggestive email addresses will not win you any points.
Demonstrate some career focus and mention your strengths and where they were developed.
Tailor your resume for every job you apply for. Add that extra touch and detail which make it more relevant to the post you are applying for. One-size-fits-all resumes and covering letters starting “To Whom It May Concern” will lead you on the road to nowhere.
Give enough detail about your studies such as: which university and schools you went to, what you studied (describe modules where appropriate to the job),which qualifications you received and what grades. Start with the most recent studies you completed.
List work experience with dates, job title and company names. Talk about the skills you acquired on the job; highlight how they are valuable for the job you are applying for. Identify contributions and concrete achievements you made to the success of the company. Put your list in chronological order, with most recent employment first.
Mentioning your interests will make you sound human, and can also be a point in your favor if you link important knowledge or experience you have gained through your interests to the job you want. If you voluntarily committed time and effort to any cause, this will reflect positively on your character.
Mention languages you are fluent in; vocational skills you have; training, seminars or conferences you have attended. Add any driving licenses you hold, first aid certificates and any software packages you are familiar with.
Finally, list two referees who can back up your resume with their personal recommendation for the job. Make sure you ask their permission in advance and list their contact details, together with a clear indication of who they are, on the resume. Remember, your resume is an advertisement for who you are and what you can offer. Make it slick, relevant, and to the point.
