Ocala takes the number one position in an index that ranks metropolitan areas based on their ability to create and sustain jobs. Take that Wilmington, NC! Components of the index published by the Milken Institute measure job, wage and salary, and technology growth. Taking three of the top ten spots, Florida's metros ranked very well. Orlando-Kissimmee came in at number 5, suggesting that Orlando residents will soon be commuting here! One of the big surprises is seeing effects of population migration resulting from Hurricane Katrina. More surprising? Ocala is considered a metro.
