Your children will never be this size again, or for very long. Kids are continually outgrowing their clothing. Those items a kid doesn’t outgrow, he wears out through rough play. The costs and organization for parents can be daunting, which is why they are looking to the classifieds to save their budgets and reduce the clutter of overstuffed drawers and packed closets.
Used clothes are great for kids. The fabric is often softer, the colors are less likely to bleed, and young children simply don’t appreciate a crisp shirt with a scratchy tag.
Whether you have one child or half a dozen, look for clothes that are versatile. Jeans and solid color t-shirts stay in style and can be handed down to a sibling or cousin. Popular styles and fads will often change faster than your child than your child’s size. When shopping used clothing, you may see plenty of dated options.
Be on the look out for swimsuits in the winter and heavy coats in the summer. Ads for clothing in the classifieds are usually advertised out of season or in the month after the season ends. Kids shorts seem to appear on the first day of Winter. Costumes and other play outfits are often advertised in November. And there is a good reason for it.

Old clothes still have plenty of use in them. Just because your child has grown too large for an outfit or favorite play costume, doesn’t mean it should be thrown away. If it’s still in good shape, sell or give it away with a quick classified ad. Collect similar items and sell as a bundle. For example, “8 pairs of Kids Jeans, size 5.” “10 gallon bag of baby clothes and onesies.” Place individual ads for specialty items like jackets, ballerina outfits, or Easter dresses.
For those items you are saving for appropriate weather or want to keep as a hand-me-down or for sentimental reasons, be sure to wash, fold and store in a dry container. Using a sealed container will keep out dust, insects, spiders and rodents. Vacuum sealed storage bags are popular because they also save space by compressing clothes. Plastic storage containers allow easier access.
