Security Certificate Error

If you are using Windows XP, you must be updated to Service Pack 3 to post an ad or access your IMS (our inventory system for dealers and brokers). Visit to update your computer.


I got an Error Message. What does it mean?

To keep our classifieds network running efficiently, our system generates specific errors each with an identifying number. If you are presented with one of these error messages, please report the number here. Here is a list of the error messages you may see on our site.

“Network Error” – This error message occurs when the photo file or size is not correct.  Photos must be “.jpeg” files, under 2 MB each (or 2,000 KB).

“Ad Text is required” –  While placing an ad, this message appears when the Ad Text is empty. This happens for certain ad blockers. Click here to fix the problem.

“Network Communication Error” – While attempting to respond to an ad, this message may appear. Your message is on hold. Please contact our Help Desk to release your message.

“Please specify all three category levels” – You must choose three category levels in order to submit your ad.

“Data Format Error” –  Please check that you have not entered the spaces in the credit card number field.

“Your credit card was was declined. Reason: CVV.” Please check the expiration date or the card code. The card code is three digits on the back of the card to the right, next to the signature line, for Visa, MasterCard, or Discover. For American Express, there is a 4 digit number on the front of your card.



“Your credit card was was declined. Reason: AVS.” Please verify that the address. It should be the same as where your monthly statement is sent. You may need to contact your bank to update the alternate billing or shipping address.

If you receive any of the above errors while submitting payment, please call our Help Desk, M-F 8:30-5:00, at 1-866-629-0282. Your ad will be saved for 7 days.

Please Note: Your bank will hold the funds as pending for each authorization attempt. In most cases, your bank will release this hold within 24-48 hours, depending on their policy. Will will not charge your card until we approve your ad.


I cannot access my IMS account.

Where are the newest ads?

New IconBecause ads sort by expiration date, not post date, you will find new ads throughout the page. For the first 24 hours they will be marked with a red “New” tag.
Here are some other tags that may appear next to an ad:

Updated IconWhen an ad is updated the “Updated” tag will appear for 24 hours. Look for these. The price may have been lowered.
Expiring Icon When an ad will expire in less than two days, a gray “Expiring” tag will appear.
Cool IconSometimes we find an ad that is funny, interesting or just cool. A “Cool Ad” tag will appear.

Before purchasing or selling a used product, especially if it is intended for use by children, we recommend that you check to see if the product has been recalled and why.

How Do I Uploads Photos?

  1. Make sure that you are using a new post form that has not been submitted yet.  If you would like to add photos to an existing ad, follow the instructions “How Do I Add Photos to an Existing Classified?”
  2. Make sure your photos are in JPEG format and under 2 MB each.
  3. On the post form, click the blue button “Upload/Manage Photos”, then click the blue button “Add Files”.
  4. Double click the photo you wish to upload and the process should start automatically.  If it doesn’t, select the photo and click the upload button in the bottom of the window.  Only one photo will upload at a time.  Once the photo is finished uploading, select the next photo (up to 6).
  5. Once all your photos have finished uploading, click the green “Done” button.
  6. Complete the rest of the post form and submit your ad!

Side Note:  If your files are not JPEG and/or are the wrong size, you may receive a Error Message and your ad may not submit properly.  There is a green progress bar that will display when the photos are uploading.  Wait for the progress bar to complete before uploading the next file.


How Do I Add Photos to an Existing Classified?

  1. Log into your user account and go to the Manage Classifieds tab.
  2. Find the classified you wish to add photos to and click the red “Cancel” button.
  3. On the same classified, click the green “Clone” button.  The post form will pre-fill automatically and you will now be able to upload photos.
  4. Add the photos by following the instructions “How Do I Upload Photos”, complete your classified and submit.  You may or may not be required to pay for the photos depending on the category.

Side Note: If you have already paid for a classified ad, you will need to follow the instructions above and then call the Help Desk at 352-629-1663 so that we can finish processing the ad with out any additional payment. You may or may not be required to pay for the photos depending on the category.


What size should my photo be?

Your photo should be less than 2MB (or 2,000 KB) and in JPG or JPEG format. To help your photos look their best, resize your photos to 640 X 480 pixels before uploading them. This also reduces the time it takes to upload your photo. It will be resized to for the category and detail pages automatically.  It also helps to keep your photo in landscape (wider than tall), rather than portrait (taller than wide), or square.

What is your refund policy?

We do not offer refunds for advertising.  However, you can make changes to your classified ad, even changing the content of the ad so that it advertises a new item.  If you pay for an ad and we do not run it because it is outside of our policies and guidelines, your card will not be charged.  If for some reason your card was charged, we will refund your payment.  Such refunds are typically processed within 24-48 hours, depending on your bank.  In the event of a material error in the ad made by us, we typically extend expiration date of the ad.

What about Equal Employment?

Businesses are required to abide by all applicable state and federal laws when advertising employment opportunities. If a complaint against a business (or some other private employer) involves race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy), national origin, age (40 or older), disability or genetic information, the business is covered by the laws the EEOC enforces if it has 15 or more employees who worked for the employer for at least twenty calendar weeks (in this year or last). If a complaint involves age discrimination, the business is covered by the laws the EEOC enforces if it has 20 or more employees who worked for the company for at least twenty calendar weeks (in this year or last). Charges should be filed with the EEOC. Please report the ad to us as well.


Why do you require an e-mail address?

We do require our sellers to use a valid e-mail address and phone number when posting ads on our website. However, because of the increasing concern of spam and counterfeit check scammers, we do not make e-mail addresses visible on our website. Potential buyers must use a contact form to contact a seller through our system.  We recommend using a secondary e-mail address for any type of public forum such as ours, and keeping your primary e-mail address private. There are many free e-mail services available on the web, including Yahoo, Hotmail, Gmail, and others.


What items are not allowed on your site?

USA4SALE is a family-friendly marketplace that aims to make a positive contribution to our communities.  We do not publish personals, ads for erotic services, items of an adult or illicit nature, ads for drugs or drug paraphernalia, including drug accessories, illegal or prescription drugs, and herbal drugs of hallucinogenic effect, sales of beer, hard alcohol, or liqueurs, tobacco and tobacco-related products, or links to websites that offer such. If you have a question about the appropriateness of a specific item, please contact us here. We will not publish ads for illegal items. With the change in Florida statutes regarding wildlife, we will no longer be posting ads for Conditional Species (formerly Reptiles of Concern). Out of respect towards the safety and privacy of children, we will not publish identifiable photos of minors.


What qualifies as a free, private-seller classified?

All of our ads are previewed prior to publication. More than 90% of the ads on our site are posted at no charge. However, ads that appear to be placed by businesses will not be published without payment.

The following types of ads will only be posted at the business rate:

  • Business help wanted and business opportunities
  • Real estate that is offered by an agent, broker, developer, investor, or listed as FSBO
  • Rental property
  • Commercial real estate
  • Ads from animal breeders
  • Puppies and baby animals
  • Services offered
  • Junk removal
  • Caretakers
  • Hay sales
  • Stud services
  • Horse boarding or stall rentals
  • Horse leasing
  • Breeding

At our discretion, we may choose to limit private sellers to a total of three (3) ads, particularly on our animals pages.  USA4SALE no longer offers private seller listings for firearms and ammunition, although FFL dealers may still advertise with us by becoming a USA4SALE Dealer. We may also require sellers to advertise at the business rate for any of the following reasons: multiple items for sale in the same category, inclusion of a business phone, inclusion of a business domain, as well as other indications of a business. Our determination will be final, but if you have questions or believe we have made a mistake, please call (352) 629-1663. To order a business ad online, go to the homepage, click the link to place a business classified. Businesses that attempt to disguise themselves as private parties may be reported to our customer service department. Real Estate  Agents and Brokers who attempt to advertise as private parties without proper disclosure, in violation of state law, may be reported to the Florida Real Estate Commission. According to Florida Statute 20.27, individuals who advertise more than three automobiles for sale in any 12-month period must be licensed dealers. Violators may be reported.

How do I Cancel or Edit my classified ad?

To cancel your classified ad or to make any changes to the text, photos or price, you must first log into your User Account.  Click the link below to for direct access.  You will need your user name and password to access your account.  If you do not know your user name or password, please call the Help Desk at 352-629-1663.

Once you are logged into your user account, find the ad you wish to change and click either Cancel or Edit.

How do I place a classified ad?

From the top of any page, click on the green button “Post an Ad” and fill out the post form in it’s entirety.  Or you can log into your User Account and your contact information will be automatically pre-filled. You will receive an Ad Number and an Order Number once your ad has been submitted. We will approve your ad within 24 hours. Private parties may post ads for free on our website. There is a nominal processing fee for ads placed by phone or in person.

I lost my confirmation e-mail. Please help!

You no longer need the confirmation email to retrieve your classified ad information. Simply log into your User Account with your full email address and password to make changes to your ad and to respond to Buyer inquiries.

When will my ad be on the site?

We update our website daily, with new ads being posted regularly during normal business hours and periodically on weekends and holidays. The exact time of publication may vary. Your ad will be approved within 24 hours. During business hours, your ad will usually be published within a few hours and sometimes within minutes.  If there is a delay in your ad’s approval, we will contact you by email. Additional information may be necessary or the ad may need to be submitted at the business ad rate.



How can I make my ad appear at the top of the category?

Ads sort by expiration date. If posted at the same time, a three month ad will appear above a one month ad.  As your ad’s expiration date draws closer, it will move closer to the bottom of the category. Please note: Being at the top of the category does not necessarily mean being at the top of the page. Some categories may start half-way down the page. But you can still be one of the first.

Although we don’t guarantee ad position, you can move your ad higher in the category by running your ad for more than one month. You may run a private party ad 1, 3 or 6 months by adding a border or a web link. Business rate ads can run for 1, 3 or 6 months.  Discounts automatically apply and are equal to 3 months saves 5% and 6 months saves 10%.

Want to feature your ad on our homepage? Select the option to “Feature My Ad” and it will run in rotation on our homepage for a week. Please keep in mind that our home page is viewed thousands of times each day and the selection of featured ads changes with each view.  Your featured ad will not appear TO YOU every time you view the home page.

Where to Report a Text Scammer?

Have you been the target of a text scammer? Scammers have taken to using text messaging as a way of communicating with advertisers and bypassing website security systems. A typical scam involves paying for an item (or overpaying) with a bogus check then demanding the balance or a refund through Western Union.

The easiest way to avoid scams is to buy and sell locally and deal in cash. Never send money by Western Union, MoneyGram or other wire services. For more information, visit our guide to Safe Selling Online.

I was contacted by a buyer offering more than my asking price.

It’s a scam. Unfortunately, these criminals use the Internet to try to separate honest people from their money. We do all we can to keep them off the site, but they still finding ways to get on. For more information on these scams, click here.


Tips & Hints (3)

Using the Google Toolbar

The Google Toolbar for Internet Explorer offers several tools that can improve your experience using USA4SALE classifieds websites.

  • AutoFill allows you to place ads in record time. Rather than typing your email and phone number for each ad, one click fills it in for you. It works on our form very well — just leave the dashes out of your phone number. 
  • SpellCheck draws a red line under any misspelled or unrecognized word. Fix all those typos when posting an ad by right-clicking on the underlined word. Then select the correct word from a list of possible spellings.
  • AutoLink is the one we like most. You head over to the garage sales page and click the magic wand icon in the Google toolbar. All of the addresses are now highlighted as links to the interactive Google map. You can now plan your whole morning route. We think we will start to see more addresses in ads.
  • WordTranslator is a great tool for our ESOL users. Google now translates English words when you point at them with the mouse. Cuidado: This WordTranslator has difficulty with the abbreviations.

The toolbar becomes a part of your internet browser in about two minutes on dial-up and uninstalls in 5 seconds, if you don’t like it.

My ad doesn’t show up on one of my computers.

Your computer or ISP is very likely “caching” our website (making a copy of it) and is using that to speed up downloads. If you think you may not be viewing the most recent version of our website, please refresh your browser and check your browser cache settings. To clear your browser cache in Internet Explorer, go to Tools — > Internet Options — > Temporary Internet Files, then click on Delete Temporary Internet Files. Then click on Settings and select “check for new version of stored pages” on “every visit to the page.”
