Rental Scam

An interesting twist on the overpayment scam, the scammer contacts someone renting their house. He informs them that he will be renting the apartment, condo or house and that he is shipping his luggage or boxes. Unfortunately, the fake company he works for can only write one bogus check to you. If you cash the check and send him the extra money, he can pay the imaginary shipper. You, of course, will be out of any money you send to him.

Why would anyone fall for this one? The scammer offers to pay the whole lease upfront for just a little extra work. That might not be a bad deal if his money were any good.

"thank you very much for the prompt response. i plan comming in the nearest few weeks from now, and also, I have a lot of laugages that will be that will be sent over before my arrival (official documents and equipments) . I presume that you will secure it while it arrives at your destination before my departure. I have instructed my boss about payment. All necesary expenses and down payment for the the first 3 months has been concluded."
