Using the wrong quote could hurt your advertising message. Using the wrong type of quotation marks could break your dealer ad text mid-sentence. Preventing this from happening to your ads is easy.
There are more than one type of quotes character. The universal, straight quotes character is created by hitting Shift and the apostrophe key (next to Enter).
However, in some programs like Word, Excel, and others, that creates a smart quotes symbol that looks similar, but is actually a small piece of programming code. And everything looks fine until you try to copy and paste that text to use on the Web.
Those special charters may be interpreted differently each place they pass on the Internet — sometimes with disastrous results. There’s a few ways to fix it.
- Paste your text as usual, and retype each quotation mark in your inventory editor.
- Strip special characters from your text by pasting it into a text editor, like Notepad, or saving as a .txt file.
- Turn off smart quotes in your document editor.
